An honest question

Nervous About Your Test — Should You Move It?

It's tempting to push the test back when the nerves hit. Sometimes that's the right call — and sometimes it just delays the nerves. Here's how to tell.

Two very different situations

Not ready means the skills aren't there yet: you still need prompts, you make serious mistakes, you can't pass mocks, or your instructor doesn't agree you're ready. Just anxious means the skills are there but the pressure feels huge. They call for opposite decisions.

If you're genuinely not ready

Move it. The DVSA is clear that you're more likely to pass if you give yourself time to brush up, take more mock tests, and practise managing nerves. Just do it before the 10-working-day deadline so you keep your fee.

If you're ready but terrified

Moving the date often just moves the fear with it — and the wait for a new slot can be long. Usually the better move is to prepare in ways that shrink the fear (mock tests, driving the centre's roads, a pre-test lesson) rather than to postpone.

The deciding question: does your instructor agree you're ready? If yes, it's nerves — prepare, don't postpone. If no, give yourself the time.

Either way, you're in control of the date

Need more time? Move it back within the rules. Ready and want it sooner? We'll alert you the moment an earlier slot appears, and you book it yourself.

FAQ

Driving Test Cancellations 2026: Your Questions Answered

Everything learners ask about cancellations, refunds, swaps and the 2026 rules — answered plainly, in one place. Tap any question to open it.

Is it legal to use a driving test cancellation service in 2026?
Yes, as long as the service only notifies you and you make the booking yourself. Since 12 May 2026 only the candidate can book, change, swap or cancel a test. A service that books for you is illegal; one that alerts you while you book yourself is fine.
Will you book the test for me?
No. Only you can book your own test. We send you a direct link the instant a matching slot appears, and you book it yourself on gov.uk in your own name.
Do you need my DVSA login?
No. The booking page uses your driving licence number and test reference number, which you enter yourself. We never ask for them and never act on your account.
Can the DVSA cancel my test for using an app?
The DVSA can cancel a test booked improperly or block access if it detects a bot on your licence. That risk comes from services that book for you. A notification-only service you book from yourself does not put your test at risk.
How do refunds work?
For a car test, you get a full refund if you cancel at least 10 full working days before the test. Later than that and you lose the fee (£62 standard, £75 evenings/weekends/bank holidays).
How many times can I change my test?
A maximum of 2 changes per booking since 31 March 2026. Changing the date, time or centre, or swapping, each counts as a change. Once used up, you must cancel and rebook.
Where can I move my test to?
Since 9 June 2026 you can move a car test only to one of your 3 nearest test centres, or back to the centre you first booked at. New bookings can still be at any centre.
Do I need an existing test booked to use you?
No. If you have no test yet, we can search the whole UK with no distance limit and you book the earliest slot anywhere. If you already have a test, the 3-nearest-centres rule applies to moving it.
How fast do I need to act on an alert?
Quickly - popular slots can be taken within seconds. We send the link instantly by WhatsApp and email so you can book straight away.
What if I miss a slot?
No problem - we keep monitoring and keep sending you unlimited alerts until you book your test.
How do swaps work now?
The DVSA won't match you with anyone. You find a partner yourself, agree the details, and each of you arranges the change with the DVSA separately. It uses one of your two changes.
Can my instructor book or change my test?
No. Since 12 May 2026 instructors, family and third-party services can't book, change, swap or cancel your test for you. Your instructor can advise, but you make the change yourself.

How-to guide

How to Find a Driving Test Cancellation (Legal, Step-by-Step)

There's no official ‘cancellation list’ — earlier slots simply appear in the normal booking system when other people move or cancel, then vanish in seconds. Here's how to catch one, legally, under the 2026 rules.

Step 1 — Make sure you have a test booked

You can only bring a test forward if you already hold one. If you haven't booked yet, book the earliest available slot at any centre first — you can always move it earlier later.

Step 2 — Know your options under the 9 June 2026 rule

When you move a car test you can go to the same centre, one of your three nearest centres, or the centre you first booked at. So pick a starting centre that keeps the centres you actually want within reach.

Step 3 — Check at the right times

Slots are released unpredictably — including early mornings, evenings, weekends and around the 6pm/10pm marks when other people's changes drop. Checking 2–3 times a day beats one big session.

Step 4 — Act in seconds

A popular cancellation can be gone within 2–15 seconds. Have your details ready and book the instant you see one that fits.

The mistake to avoid: never cancel your existing test to “search” for an earlier one. Slots vanish fast — you could end up with nothing. Always keep your booking until the earlier one is confirmed.

Step 5 — Let a monitor do the watching

No one can refresh gov.uk 24/7 across every centre. A legal notification service watches for you and sends a direct link the instant a matching slot appears — you then book it yourself. That's the realistic way to catch the good slots without living on the booking page.

Legal guide

Are Driving Test Cancellation Apps Legal in 2026?

Some cancellation apps are now against the law — others are completely fine. The difference comes down to one word. Here's how to tell them apart, and how to get an earlier test without risking your booking.

What changed in 2026

Through 2026 the DVSA rewired how driving tests are booked, to stop bots and resellers snapping up slots and selling them at a mark-up. The changes became law as SI 2026/326. Three dates matter:

  • 31 March 2026 — you can change a booking a maximum of two times.
  • 12 May 2026 — only the candidate can book, change, swap or cancel their own test. It became against the law for anyone else to do it for you.
  • 9 June 2026 — if you move a test, you can only move it to one of your three nearest centres.

The line between legal and illegal

The law reserves four actions to you, the candidate: booking, changing, swapping and cancelling your test. So:

  • Illegal now: any app or service that logs in and books, changes or swaps a test on your behalf — even if it markets this as doing it “for you”. Using one risks your test: the DVSA can cancel a booking it believes was made improperly, and can suspend your online booking access.
  • Still legal: a service that only monitors publicly visible availability and notifies you when an earlier slot appears — leaving the booking to you, signed in with your own details.
In short: “we book it for you” is banned. “we alert you, you book it” is fine.

How to check if a service is safe

  1. Does it book the test for you? If yes — walk away.
  2. Does it need your DVSA login or ask to act on your account? The booking page doesn't even use a password — just your licence and reference numbers, which you enter yourself.
  3. Does it clearly say you make the booking? A compliant service is upfront that it only alerts you.

The bottom line

Cancellation apps that book for you are no longer legal in 2026. Alert services that leave the booking to you are. That way you get the speed of automation with none of the legal risk.

Rules explained

What SI 2026/326 Means for Learner Drivers

SI 2026/326 is the piece of law behind the 2026 driving test booking changes. Here's what it actually says — without the jargon — and how it affects you.

Why the rules changed

Bots and resellers were snapping up test slots and selling them at a mark-up, pushing genuine learners to the back of a very long queue. The rules aim to stop that by locking booking to the candidate.

The three changes, in plain English

  • From 31 March 2026 — two changes per booking. You can reschedule a test a maximum of two times. Plan your moves.
  • From 12 May 2026 — only you can manage your test. Booking, changing, swapping or cancelling a test for someone else is now against the law. Instructors and third-party services can no longer do it for you.
  • From 9 June 2026 — nearest centres only. If you move a car test, you can only move it to one of your three nearest centres (or back to where you first booked).

What you can still do

  • Book, change and manage your own test yourself on gov.uk.
  • Book a brand-new test at any centre in Great Britain (the 3-centre limit is only on moves).
  • Use a notification service that alerts you to cancellations — as long as you do the booking yourself.
The one thing that's banned: letting a third party book, change, swap or cancel your test for you. Everything you do yourself stays fine.

What it means in practice

Getting an earlier test is still very possible — but the winning move is now speed and good information, not paying someone to grab a slot for you. Know your nearest centres, watch for cancellations, and book the moment one appears.
